WOODBLOCK

Woodblock is a piece of wood which text, images or patterns is cut for printing. Woodblock is prepared as a relief matrix, which means the areas to show negative space are cut away with a knife or chisel, leaving the characters or images to show in black ink at the surface level.   It is only necessary to ink the block and press it onto the paper or cloth to achieve an acceptable print.
